Description
Concept art for our videogame Droid Assault (which is on sale on Steam right now, I might add). This is one of the GX series heavy guard bots - a boss fight on a fairly late level. Cannon turrets everywhere and a grenade launcher on top. Very unfriendly chap!
The idea here was me trying to visualise what Chaz's lovely pixelly in-game artwork actually meant. What are the colored borders on the 2D sprites and how do they translate into a real 3-dimensional robot. The concept I came up with was that the core of each of the robots is a silvery mass of machinery and cables all lit by excessively bright lights in a single color. And then the armor plates are just about jet black, suspended on pylons and there are seams through which the light escapes creating the colored-outline effect seen in Chaz's 2D retro-game style art.
Was thinking of using these designs for Steam Trading cards but it turns out Valve want something quite close to the original style so another set of images are about to go live on Steam and I figured I'd get these uploaded somewhere else.
