Hoho - whoops! I got "Spring Cleaned"! A number of my emote-like animations received an attack from the feather-duster of spring-cleaning moderation :XD:

Fair enough. My bad.

The interesting reason for some of them - and this genuinely does intrigue me - is that to be appropriately placed in the Emoticon gallery, a work must be Pixel Art.

Now if that's the way it works then that's the way it works and the fastidious gallery mods must be commended for their great work in making sure everything is neat 'n' tidy. I'm certainly not going to feel miffed because I failed to adequately investigate the categorization system before uploading. However... hoho... and this is purely as a point to contemplate which I think is interesting. What is the purpose and function of Emoticons? I think it is to "Emote!". I would certainly tend to imagine that the key factor that makes something a worthwhile Emoticon is whether or not it expresses something in its tiny little way. Not whether its production technique follows a specific protocol. Certainly, Pixel Art (which I love!) is an ideal technique one might use when making Emoticons but... and again, not arguing, just pondering out loud as it were... are all other techniques automatically invalid? Fascinating!

Anyway. Because the cruel ticklish touch of the feather duster felt ever-so-slightly like a good-natured challenge to "do it our way" and also because I rather enjoyed being a part of the Emoticon gallery with all its cuteness and silliness, I decided to re-implement the last emoticon-esque-animation I made wholly using the acceptable pixel art technique.

So, this looks quite similar to the last thing I posted. It is not. The last one was made with POV. This was made without any cheating or reference to the earlier animation entirely in Paint Shop Pro (and I gots the screenshots to prove it! ;-) ). It took about four hours, and achieves much of the same feel as the earlier version.

Most fun - I think - is the smooth movement which is done by mentally calculating the anti-alias values for each changing pixel in every frame based on the difference between luminances.
